P.O.D
Who will remember POD? This futuristic racing game published by Ubisoft in 1995? He proposed for the first time a game compatible with MMX technology produced by Intel. Furthermore, with the 3dfx card, he revolutionized the world of 3D games with stunning graphics.

With a friend, we decided to start a remake, for the moment we are trying to run the game, it works for my friend, not me. For POD, is above all a nightmare to install on our machines today. It is not possible with systems operating in 64bits. In short, I started modeling one of the main 8 vehicles. The Shivan!

We’ll both try to redo the original game first. Either the 8 cars and the first 16 circuits. It is already a big job. For the moment I do not went forward too, we must ask permission to Ubisoft to avoid any problems, and of course we do not resell our remake.

UDK
Enter in the sequence horrors and giggles, I had some bug in recent days with UdK:

Image 1 (left) :
I had a big trouble lighting on this office (with a white texture), because with a light on top, even when Office arrives to have shadows. I solved this with a little hack, but I do not yet understand the exact problem and solution, however I suspect the normals.
Image 2 (center) :
Here’s a twist of shade, the picture is retouched to improve contrast, we can see and worry about the shade: it’s actually the value of “diffuse boost” for global illumination that was too low. I did some tests, but a high value makes the shade a little clearer. I’ll have to find a good balance. But attention must be paid on a screen rather clear these errors stand out much.
Image 3 (right) :
Just a lamp, I had some problems with the materials (alpha and translucents bugs), so I learned to cut my lamp in 3 textures, I took 2 days, yes, two days for find how to do that in xsi. So I took a lot of delay.

LLOE
Another point in fiddling as my usual site and forum UDK, I came across this:

I like this arrangement, coupled with the right image, I think it can give something very, very interesting as the output of my first level in LLOE (climb the stairs after the cinematic introduction in part library).

Tutoriels
I purchased 2 tutorials from EAT3D, so that the “UDK introduction” by Hourences. The second tutorial for the “next-gen texturing”, or more specifically the creation of more advanced textures and realistic.

I’m pretty happy with my first purchase (the latter I still can not make an opinion, not having been able to watch yet). I first watched the part on the light, big issue that interests me, Hourences rolls over a little this part, but at least allowed me to better understand how the post processing on the unreal engine 3. But in fact it exceeded my expectations, I discovered new tools, new functions, and I must say I am very excited especially when we already played with hammer (Source engine) and we see the power the unreal editor facing it.

Ok, that’s all for the moment.
